We are excited to spend this summer monitoring stands of whitebark pine in the Warner Mountains in Modoc National Forest, CA. Thanks to funding from the USFS Forest Health Protection Program, we will be collecting data from long-term study plots to track whitebark pine vulnerability to white pine blister rust and mountain pine beetle in an understudied region. This project will document 14 years of change in the largest northeastern CA whitebark pine forest and provide critical information on current whitebark pine ecosystem health to inform restoration and management activities.
